About Valerie

Welcome to my new website! Playing with colors and patterns has always been part of my work along with contrasts like vintage next to modern. I create mixed media pieces inspired by elements from nature. Experimenting with printmaking and mark making techniques adds depth and richness and keeps the artwork fresh. 

As a child inspiration came from everywhere like the beaches of Cape Cod with its beautiful tidal pools and my grandparent’s apartment in New York City filled with dramatic interior color schemes. My art journey continued at the Rhode Island School of Design where experimentation was encouraged and sketching, painting and printmaking became part of my daily life.

After college I focused on illustrating and writing and created cards and products for companies like Hallmark and Peaceable Kingdom Press and later award winning children's books for Henry Holt & Company, Running Press and American Girl. 

My husband and I and our family live just outside Philadelphia where we built a studio next to the house. Painting and creating large and small artworks in the studio has been a joy and I hope the pieces evoke joy for you as well.
